.
[drowning] .

This is a doomed day.
The disc of the sun kept behind
dust and smoke and fog.

In the park I can hardly see your face.
The lake's steaming
like some bitter liquid.

Fear between me and you.
Boredom between you and me.
Our silence is hidden among the words
which pour out of our mouths uncontrollably.

The veils of water
salty and stitching in my wounds,
my scars which remind me of your smile.

Your face a lake itself:
calm and green and deep.
My words sink like stones
making soft waves which run
gently all over your forehead.

You wouldn't let me drown, would you?

But I see beasts in the depth,
  ugly fishes,
deaf dead dreams
drifting on the surface
swollen belly upwards,
hiding in the seaweed
afraid to be seen.

"You're lying!" I'm saying
And just when my words hit the water
   with a splash
you smile 'cause you don't care.
I cannot even hurt you.

And you grow cold
and you grow clammy.
And you can cross the waters without
  your feet getting wet.
But I can't do that!
I can't do that!

You would let me drown, wouldn't you?

Boredom between you and me.
Distance between me an you.

This
is no day to be.
